Now streaming on Tubi is the gripping revenge thriller “Protectors of the Land,” a powerful film by Vancouver-based filmmaker Lauro Chartrand-DelValle. Released on July 4th, 2025, this film has already begun to make waves, capturing audiences with its intense storytelling and meaningful themes rooted in Indigenous resilience and justice.

Set against the rugged and unforgiving landscape of an Alaskan town ravaged by a violent drug war, “Protectors of the Land” follows a man driven by grief and an unwavering desire for justice. Tim Rozon, best known for his role in “Wynonna Earp,” “SurealEstate,” and “Instant Star,” delivers a compelling performance as a man whose life is shattered when his Indigenous wife, played with raw emotion by Tanaya Beatty of “Yellowstone” and “Through Black Spruce,” is brutally murdered. Her death propels him into a dangerous quest that pushes him to confront violent enemies and the dark realities threatening his community.

Joining Rozon is Nathaniel Arcand, who portrays the wife’s brother—a complex Indigenous man with his own scars and a fierce sense of duty.

Together, they navigate a perilous path, fighting not only for personal vengeance but also striving to protect their community’s dignity and future. The story explores profound themes of cultural identity, familial bonds, and the ongoing fight for Indigenous sovereignty, echoing real-world struggles faced by Indigenous peoples today.

What makes this film even more remarkable is its foundation in community and purpose. Lauro Chartrand-DelValle envisioned “Protectors of the Land” as more than just a cinematic project; it was an opportunity to amplify Indigenous voices within the industry.

The IAAMP program was initiated two years prior by Lauro and Bruce Crawford. Through this initiative, they were able to include some of their Indigenous graduates in the film.

Indigenous Action Artist Mentorship Program, a groundbreaking initiative designed to give Indigenous community members hands-on experience across all departments. This program aimed to build skills, foster representation, and ensure that Indigenous perspectives are woven into every aspect of the filmmaking process, making the project a true reflection of its cultural roots.

Filmed over three weeks in Vancouver, Squamish, and Langley, the film was produced with a budget of approximately 3.7 million dollars, secured through private investments and provincial and federal tax credits.

The collaboration involved seasoned producers like “Willie Aames,” known for “Gunsmoke” and “Eight is Enough,” and “Jaye Gazeley,” recognized for works such as “Rabid” and “Free Fire.” However, Willie Aames and Jaye Gazeley did not end up producing on the film; they left the project due to scheduling conflicts.

The core production team included Lauro Chartrand-DelValle and Tara Cowell-Plain, along with Sharlene Royer as Executive Producer. Their combined efforts helped bring Chartrand-DelValle’s vision to life, resulting in a gritty, authentic film that resonates on multiple levels.

Since its release, “Protectors of the Land” has sparked conversations about Indigenous representation in media and the importance of sharing stories that challenge stereotypes while highlighting resilience and strength. It stands as a testament to the power of storytelling to educate, inspire, and foster understanding.

Now available exclusively on Tubi, this film offers viewers an immersive experience into a story of justice, cultural pride, and resistance. It’s a film that not only entertains but also invites reflection on pressing social issues, making it a must-watch for those seeking meaningful, impactful cinema. With its compelling characters, intense narrative, and cultural significance, “Protectors of the Land” is poised to leave a lasting impression—reminding audiences that stories rooted in truth and lived experiences have the power to move hearts and minds alike.
